A Delivery Order (DO) is a warehouse instruction to update its internal ledger when a cask changes hands. It started life as logistics paperwork for bonded warehouses – not as an investor protection tool.
DOs move custody on a warehouse ledger. They were never designed to be a legal title document, and on their own they don't prove ownership.
What counts in a dispute
The market often treats DOs like proof of ownership. In disputes, they carry less weight than contracts and warehouse records.
- Not legal proof: Courts recognise sale contracts and warehouse records, not a DO in isolation.
- Inconsistent issuance: Many warehouses won't issue DOs to private buyers at all.
- Ledger gap: If your name never reaches the warehouse ledger, it's much harder to prove you control the cask.
- Single point of failure: If a broker disappears or stops cooperating, your paper trail stalls.

Every verified cask receives a globally unique identifier that enables verification worldwide.
Built using the same identifier logic as ISIN and CUSIP codes used in global finance. Your CaskID contains no personal information. The record is public: anyone with the ID, or the distillery, cask number and fill year, can view it, and it appears in the CaskID register if you list the cask for sale. Records are kept out of search engines and never show who owns the cask.
